Toft2|tɒft| The surname of a Staffordshire family used attrib. to designate (a style of) lead-glazed slipware made there in the late-seventeenth cent., some of the best examples of which bear the name of Thomas Toft (d. 1689) or another Toft, usu. regarded as the maker of the piece.
