fluoranthene Chem.|fluːəˈrænθiːn| [ad. G. fluoranthen (Fittig & Gebhard 1877, in Ber. d. Deut. Chem. Ges. X. 2143), f. fluorene + phenanthrene.] An aromatic hydrocarbon, C16 H10, crystallizing as colourless needles or plates and found in coal tar; also, any of the derivatives of this compound.
