tragopan Ornith.|ˈtrægəʊpæn| [a. L. tragopān, Gr. τραγόπᾱν, name of a reputed bird in Ethiopia (perh. the bearded vulture); f. τράγος goat + Πᾱ́ν Pan; in mod. Ornithology taken as the name of a genus (Cuvier, 1829).] A pheasant of the genus Ceriornis (formerly Tragopan), characterized by having a pair of erectile fleshy horns on the head; the species are found in India, China, etc.
