forsythia|fɔːˈsaɪθɪə| [mod.L. (M. Vahl Enumeratio Plantarum (1805) I. 39), f. the name of William Forsyth (1737–1804), English botanist: see -ia1.] A plant of the genus of spring-flowering shrubs so named, native to Albania and eastern Asia and belonging to the family Oleaceæ; cultivated for their bright yellow, bell-shaped flowers.
