1. The action, posture, or practice of reclining. Now rare.
1578Banister Hist. Man i. 19 How hapneth y⊇ inclination and reclination of the head. 1619Lushington Repetition Serm. (1659) 65 It signifies rather the reclination or posture of one asleep, than the affection of sleep it self. 1657Thornley tr. Longus' Daphnis & Chloe 133 She lifted him up from the reclination on his side. 1822–34Good's Study Med. (ed. 4) III. 249 Rest, reclination, general tonics..constitute the best plan of treatment.
b. The action of resting or relying upon one.
1822Coleridge Lett., Conv., etc. 25 Jan. II. 79 With unwrinkled confidence and inmost reclination.
2. Dialling. The angle made by the plane of the dial with a vertical plane intersecting it. ? Obs.
