† aˈgrest, a. and n. Obs. [a. Fr. agreste, 14th c. a. It. (and Sp.) agreste:—L. agrest-is belonging to the field, f. ager, agr-um field.] A. adj. Belonging to the open country, wild; hence, Rustic, rude.
