tumescence|tjuːˈmɛsəns| [f. next, corresp. to a Latin type *tumēscentia.] A becoming tumid, swelling up; a tendency to tumidity; spec. the swelling of a volcano as a result of increasing pressure of magma inside it. Also concr. a tumid part, a swelling.
