glendoveer|glɛndəʊˈvɪə(r)| [Avowedly an alteration of grandouver in Sonnerat Voy. aux Indes (1782); from the context in which the word occurs in that work (I. 185 ff.), it appears to represent Skr. gandharva, a kind of semi-divine spiritual being.] One of a race of beautiful sprites in Southey's artificial quasi-Hindu mythology.
