‖ ukemi|ˈuːkemi| [Jap., f. uke uke2 + mi body.] In Judo, the art of falling safely.
[1942C. Yerkow Mod. Judo ii. 26 Ukemi is the Japanese word and means ‘to fall away’. The aim is to break the fall before the body reaches the mat or ground, so that no jar or shock is felt.
