‖ gnosis|ˈnəʊsɪs| pl. (rare) gnoses |ˈnəʊsiːz|. [a. Gr. γνῶσις investigation, knowledge (in Christian writers esp. a higher knowledge of spiritual things), f. γνω- root of γιγνώσκειν to know.] A special knowledge of spiritual mysteries. Often with reference to the claim to such knowledge made by the Gnostics: Gnostic philosophy, Gnosticism.
