A kind of shirt front for men, and chemisette for women, worn in 17th c.
1661Pepys Diary 13 Oct., This day left off half-shirts, and put on a wastecoate. 1664Ibid. 28 June, This day put on a half-shirt first this summer, it being very hot. 1671Lady M. Bertie in 12th Rep.
