A rock of the peridotite group consisting basically of orthopyroxene and olivine.
1890Mineral. Mag. IX. 41 The typical norite has 49·23 per cent. of silica,..the well-known ‘schillerfels’ or bastite-serpentine-rock (Harzburgite of Rosenbusch) 42·36. 1922Mineral. Abstr.
