ˈhatch-boat [f. hatch n.1 + boat n.] a. ‘A sort of small vessel known as a pilot boat, having a deck composed almost entirely of hatches’ (Smyth Sailor's Word-bk.). b. ‘A kind of half-decked fishing boat; one which has a hatch or well for keeping fish’ (Simmonds Dict. Trade 1858).
