heterodont, a. and n. Zool.|ˈhɛtərəʊdɒnt| [mod. f. heter- + Gr. ὀδούς, ὀδοντ- tooth. In mod.F. hétérodon.] A. adj. Having teeth of different kinds or forms (incisors, canines, and molars), as most mammals. Also said of the teeth. Opp. to homodont.

VII. 232/2 In the majority of the Mammalia, the teeth in the same jaw vary in size, form, and structure, and they are therefore called Heterodont. 1886Athenæum 9 Oct. 471/1 Existing toothed whales have what appears to be a homodont and not a heterodont dentition, but a heterodont dentition has been observed in the foetus of an existing whale.
