hyperper Numism.|haɪˈpɜːpə(r)| [ad. med.L. hyperperum, -pyrum, ad. Gr. ὑπέρπυρον, f. ὑπέρ hyper- + πῦρ fire: applied to gold highly refined by fire.] A Byzantine coin; the gold solidus (which at the cession of Crete was rather heavier than a half-sovereign). Cf.
