hysteranthous, a. Bot.|hɪstəˈrænθəs| [f. Gr. ὕστερ-ος later + ἄνθ-ος flower + -ous. Cf. F. hystéranthe.] Of plants: Having the flowers appearing before the leaves. (Etymologically the word should mean the reverse of this; the correct term would be hysterophyllous.)
