hæmophæin Chem.|hiːməʊˈfiːɪn| Also hæma-, -phein. [mod. f. hæmo- + Gr. ϕαι-ός dusky + -in. The erroneous spelling hæma- follows F. hémaphéine.] A brownish substance found in the blood in some cases of jaundice.
