alstrœmeria|ælstrøˈmɪərɪə| [mod.L., f. the name of Claude Alstrœmer, Swedish naturalist (1736–96): see -ia1.] A plant of the genus of tropical American amaryllidaceous plants so named, esp. cultivated for their flowers.
