[f. idea n.: see -ate3. Cf. It. ideare, Sp., Pg. idear.]
1. trans. To form the idea of; to frame, devise, or construct in idea or imagination; to imagine, conceive. (In early use with reference to Platonic ‘ideas’: see idea n. 1.)

A. adj.
1. Produced by or deriving its existence from a (Platonic) ‘idea’: see idea n. 1.
2. Concerned with ideas as opp. to reality (cf. idea n. 8).
