indogen Chem.|ˈɪndəʊdʒɛn| [f. indo-2 + -gen 1.] A name for the group C6H4{btr1}CO{bbr1}{bbr1}NH{btr1}C{b2} the double molecule of which (di-indogen) constitutes indigo-blue. Hence indoˈgenic a. in i. acid = indoxylic acid. inˈdogenide, a compound of indogen with another radical, as indogenide of benzoic aldehyde, or of pyruric acid. Indigo-blue is the indogenide of pseudo-isatin, or di-indogen.
