The names of James D. Watson (b. 1928), U.S. biochemist, and Francis H. C. Crick (b. 1916), English biochemist, used attrib. with reference to the pairing of adenine with thymine (or uracil) and of guanine with cytosine in the two strands of a double helix, described by them in 1953.
