isophorous, a. Bot.|aɪˈsɒfərəs| [f. Gr. ἰσοϕόρος bearing equal weight, equal in strength, f. ἰσο-, iso- + -ϕόρος bearing.] Term used by Lindley to express the relation of certain supposed genera (e.g. of orchids) to those of which they are held to be abnormal forms.
1866Treas. Bot., Isophorous, transformable into something else. Thus, Aclinia [printed Actinia] is an isophorous form of Dendrobium, Paxtonia of Spathoglottis, and, according to Morren, Anguloa and Lycaste of Maxillaria. |
