The name of Ludwig Levin Jacobson (1783–1843), Danish anatomist and physician, used in the possessive or with of-adjunct to designate structures investigated by him, as Jacobson's nerve, the tympanic nerve, a branch of the glosso-pharyngeal (ninth cranial) nerve; Jacobson's organ, an organ which is only vestigial in adult man but is a well-developed olfactory organ in many vertebrates, notably snakes and lizards, occurring as (one of) a pair of sacs or tubes in communication with the mouth (or in some cases the nose).
