Also Keftiu sing. and collect.; pl. Caphtorim (Heb. Kaphtōrīm).
[Cf. Caphtor, Heb. Kaphtōr, name in O.T. for the place of origin of the Philistines.]
A. n. Name in Egyptian records of a people of the E. Mediterranean, identified by some authorities with the Cretans; a member of this people.
