khaya|ˈkaɪjə, ˈkeɪjə| [mod.L. (A. de Jussieu 1830, in Mém. Mus. Hist. Nat. XIX. 249), ad. Wolof khaye.] A tropical African tree of the genus so called, belonging to the family Meliaceæ; the timber of a tree of this kind, better known as African mahogany.
