klydonograph Electr. Engin.|klaɪˈdəʊnəʊgrɑːf, -æ-| [f. Gr. κλύδων wave, billow + -o + -graph.] An instrument for making a photographic record from which the voltage and polarity of a surge can be inferred, consisting of a point electrode resting (in darkness) on a stationary or moving film behind which is a plate electrode.

Ibid. 769/1 The word ‘klydonograph’ was coined by Dr. Roscoe M. Ihrig of the Carnegie Institute of Technology. 1940Nature 22 June 982/1 Three klydonographs were coupled to the line by means of concentric-cylinder type capacitance ‘potential-dividers’. 1963D. J. Malan Physics of Lightning xi. 92 Since the Klydonograph indicates voltage, it is necessary to know the surge impedance of the system of conductors in order to calculate the peak current. |
