The name of Peter Lawson (d. 1820) and his son Charles (1794–1873), partners in the firm of Lawson and Son, Edinburgh nurserymen, used attrib. or in the possessive in Lawson('s) cypress to designate Chamæcyparis lawsoniana, a conifer from Oregon first introduced to cultivation by them after seeds had been collected in 1854 by Andrew Murray (1812–78), Scottish botanist, who named the tree after the Lawsons.
