† legatnait Sc. Obs. rare—1. [ad. med.L. lēgāt-us nāt-us lit. ‘legate born’, i.e. having an inherent right to the dignity of a legate. Cf. F. légat-né.] An archbishop (e.g. of Canterbury) who in virtue of his office exercised the rights of a papal legate.
