leptocaul, n. and a. Bot.|ˈlɛptəʊkɔːl|
[f. lepto- + Gr. καυλός stem, stalk.]
A tree having a relatively thin primary stem and branches; also attrib. or as adj. Hence leptoˈcaulous a.; ˈleptocauly n., development of this type. Cf. pachycaul.
1949E. J. H. Corner in Ann. Bot. XIII. 392 Leptocauly. I use this name to indicate the modern tree with relative[ly] slender primary axis and branches in contrast with the pachycaulous cycad.
