trans. To separate (grass seed) from refuse by shaking the mixture in a special way; to separate (ore) similarly or by winnowing. Hence ˈyandying vbl. n.
1933C. Fenner Bunyips & Billabongs vi. 158 When a gin has collected a coolamon..full of seed she has also a good deal of sand, dust, grass and leaves. But by shaking and twisting the coolamon in a particularly skilful way an almost perfect separation is made. This art of separation is called ‘yandying’. 1937E. Hill Great Austral.
