The part of a glomerulus of the kidney where the afferent and efferent arterioles are closest together, situated towards the outer end of the vascular pole of the glomerular capsule.
1934Bull. Johns Hopkins Hosp. LV. 420 Zimmermann..speaks of the ‘Polkissen’ as a mass of connective-tissue cells applied to the afferent arteriole at its entry and extending a short way along it... This connective tissue..is especially to be seen in a central position in the lobule, between the capillaries and is spoken of as the ‘mesangium’. 1948in Biol. Abstr.
