microsthene Zool.|ˈmaɪkrəsθiːn| [mod.L. Microsthena pl. (see below), f. Gr. µῑκρό-ς small + σθένος strength.] A member of the Microsthena, one of the orders in Dana's classification of the Mammalia, comprising the smallest and structurally least powerful mammals. Hence microˈsthenic a., of or pertaining to the microsthenes. (Cf. megasthene).
