[f. mod.L. group name Nidicolæ (H. F. Gadow in A. Newton Dict. Birds (1894) 629) (f. L. nīdus nest + col-ere to inhabit) + -ous.]
Of a bird: bearing young which are helpless at birth and remain in the nest until they are sufficiently developed to live without parental care. So ˈnidicole n., a bird of this type.
