‖ non liquet|nɒn ˈlɪkwɛt| [L. = ‘it is not clear’.] A condition of uncertainty as to whether a thing is so or not; spec. in Law, a verdict given by a jury in cases of doubt, deferring the matter to another day for trial. Also attrib. = uncertain as to the side to which one belongs.
