Nostoc Bot.|ˈnɒstɒk| Also 7–8 nostoch, 8 -ock. [A name invented by Paracelsus.] A genus of unicellular Algæ, having the cells arranged in rows which intertwine with each other and form a gelatinous mass; esp. the ordinary species of this, Nostoc commune, formerly believed to be an emanation or deposit from the stars.
