ˈoil-nut A name for various nuts and large seeds which yield oil; also for the plants producing them; spec. a. the Castor-oil Plant, Ricinus communis; b. the North American Butternut, Juglans cinerea; c. the North American Buffalo-nut or Elk-nut; d. the Oil Palm, Elæis guineensis.
