ˈoil-seed Any seed yielding oil, e.g. linseed, rapeseed, mustard-seed. spec. a. that of the Castor-oil plant, Ricinus communis; b. that of Guizotia oleifera, an East Indian Composite plant, the oil of which is used for lamps and as a condiment; c. that of the Gold-of-Pleasure or False Flax, Camelina sativa (Siberian oil-seed); d. cottonseed (also attrib. oil-seed cake).
