ˈolive-ˈoil 1. The oil obtained from the pulp of olives. Formerly oil of olive(s (olive 2 b), oil olive (oil n.1 2 c). Also attrib. A fixed non-drying oil, of a pale yellow or greenish-yellow colour, insipid and inodorous, viscid and greasy to the touch, and very light; much used in cookery and medicine, and (the inferior kinds) also for illumination, lubrication, etc.
