ˌout-of-ˈstate, adj. phr. [f. out of prep. phr. 8, III + state n. 31 c.] Originating from outside a state of the United States. Also ellipt. as n., the area outside a particular state. Hence ˌout-of-ˈstater, a person originating from outside a particular state.
