A. n.
a. An Indo-Iranian language group to which belong the languages spoken in the lower ranges of the Himalayas from Nepal to Chamba.
b. (Also pahareen.) A native or inhabitant of this region.
B. adj. Of or pertaining to this region, its inhabitants, or the languages spoken by them.
The name was originally applied to one of the languages or dialects which formed the group (so quots. 1857, 1886).
