pentosan Biochem.|ˈpɛntəʊsæn| Also † -ane. [a. G. pentosan (Schulze & Tollens 1892, in Ann. d. Chem. CCLXIX. 55), after glucosan, hexosan, etc.: see pentose.] Any of the class of polysaccharides, occurring widely in plants, of which the constituent monosaccharides are pentoses.
