A genus of small marsupials of Australia and New Guinea, typical of the family Peramelidæ, or true Bandicoots. Hence peraˈmelid, an animal of this genus, a perameles; peraˈmeline a., belonging to the sub-family containing Perameles; peraˈmeloid a., akin to or resembling Perameles.
