† ˈperdrigon Obs. (Also 6 perdigwena, 8 padrigon.) [a. F. perdrigon (Littré), in 16th c. perdigoine, in Cotgr. perdigonne, in Pr. perdigon, perdrigon, properly ‘young partridge’, according to Littré and Hatz.-Darm. from its colour.] A variety of plum, black, violet, or white (Littré), formerly highly valued for its flavour.
