peroxy(-), prefix and quasi-a. Chem.|pəˈrɒksɪ| [f. per-1 5 + oxy-: cf. peroxide.] A. prefix. Orig. used in the names of compounds containing a larger proportion of oxygen than the parent compound, now in the names of compounds, radicals, etc., that contain a peroxide group. B. Hence as quasi-adj.: Containing or being a peroxide group. Cf. peroxo-). peroxo-) is now the usual form in inorganic chemistry.
