phanerophyte Bot.|ˈfænərəʊfaɪt| [ad. Da. fanerofyt (C. Raunkiaer 1904, in Bot. Tidsskr. XXVI. p. xiv), f. phanero- + -phyte.] A plant which bears its dormant buds well above the surface of the ground.
