pheniprazine Pharm.|fəˈnɪprəziːn| [f. phen- + iso- + propyl + hydrazine.] The compound 1-phenyl-2-hydrazinopropane, C9H14N2, which was formerly used (as the hydrochloride) for the treatment of depression, angina, and hypertension.
1960Jrnl. Amer. Med. Assoc. 2 Apr. 1554/1 Mackinnon and co-workers used pheniprazine to treat a series of 28 patients with the anginal syndrome. 1961Lancet 16 Sept. 622/2 It seems probable that pheniprazine was the cause of the jaundice; the total dose was 560 mg. given over sixty days. 1971L. E. Hollister in Melmon & Morrelli Clin. Pharmacol. (1972) xi. 459/1 The first hydrazide drug was iproniazid... A later member of the series was pheniprazine (Catron). Both have subsequently been removed from the market because of intolerable toxicity. |
