phorbol Chem.|ˈfɔːbɒl| [a. G. phorbol (Flaschenträger & Boehm 1927, in Ber. über die ges. Physiol. und exper. Pharmakol. XLII. 585), f. Gr. ϕορβή fodder, forage (f. ϕέρβειν to feed): see -ol.] A tetracyclic compound, C20H28O6, some of the esters of which are cocarcinogens and are present in croton oil.
