phycite Chem.|ˈfaɪsaɪt| [f. as prec. + -ite1 4.] A sweet-tasting crystalline substance (C4H10O4) extracted from Protococcus vulgaris; also called erythromannite. Hence in extended sense (see quot. 1866–8).
