An arc is piecewise differentiable..if the same conditions hold except for a finite number of values t. 1962Alley & Atwood Electronic Engin. xvi. 546 This method is known as the piecewise-linear method, since the tube or transistor is assumed to be linear over certain regions of operation. 1966Scott & Tims Math. Anal. vi. 209 It is useful also to consider functions which, while not continuous in a whole interval, are nevertheless made up of a finite number of continuous pieces. Such functions are called piecewise continuous. 1979Nature 12 Apr. 623/1 Their major effect is to re-order, piecewise, the fibre map of the eye circumference laid out across the t axis of the ribbon. |
