pipsyl Chem.|ˈpɪpsaɪl, -ɪl| Also PIPSYL. [f. letters in the systematic name (see def.).] The radical p-iodophenylsulphonyl, I·C6H4·SO2{b1}, compounds of which are used as radioactive labels.
1946Jrnl. Amer. Chem. Soc. LXVIII. 1390/1 As the labelled reagent we used p-iodophenyl sulfonyl chloride (PIPSYLchloride), prepared from radioactive iodide ion and p-diazobenzene-sulfonic acid, followed by treatment with phosphorus pentachloride. Ibid. 1390/2 Less than one-hundredth per cent. of d(-)alanine was found in the β-lactoglobulin hydrolysate using PIPSYL d({b1})alanine carrier. 1949Ibid. LXXI. 256/1 (heading) The preparation of pipsyl amino acids for use as carriers. 1961G. R. Choppin Exper. Nucl. Chem. x. 173 In the last chapter the use of I131 labeled p-iodobenzenesulfonyl chloride (pipsyl chloride) with the amino acids was described. 1974Canad. Jrnl. Biochem. LII. 217/2 Using the multiple isomorphous protein phases..a difference electron density map has been computed. This map was relatively devoid of significant electron density except in the region of PIPSYL binding. |
